The Housemaid 2 Just Added Its First New A-Lister, And She's Going To Break The Internet

The Housemaid proved to be a massive financial hit following its release at the tail end of 2025. With that, it probably shouldn’t have come as much of a surprise that Lionsgate quickly greenlighted a sequel to Paul Feig’s book-to-screen adaptation. Pre-production on the follow-up is currently in motion, and that means casting is underway. On that note, the movie just landed a major A-lister to join Sydney Sweeney. And this is a name so notable that fan reactions may break the internet.

It’s been reported that Kirsten Dunst has officially been tapped for a role in The Housemaid’s Secret. Deadline’s report on this major bit of casting news didn’t include specific information regarding the role Dunst is playing. Nevertheless, this marks a huge step forward for the upcoming movie and further indicates how much Lionsgate is aiming to invest in the film. Dunst herself also commented after the news dropped, sharing a screengrab of the trade’s article to Instagram and dropping a four-word caption:

My dream came true.

Few people probably need to be convinced of Dunst’s acting prowess, considering her vast body of work. From Bring it On and Spider-Man to The Beguiled and Midnight Special, Dunst’s filmography is filled with titles spanning various genres in which she’s shown off talents as a performer. And, of course, let’s not forget that she also landed an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actress due to her performance in 2021’s The Power of the Dog. So, in short, Dunst is definitely a strong addition to the Housemaid franchise.

There are a few reasons why I think this news could drum up some serious excitement across the internet. First and foremost, Freida McFadden’s Housemaid books have garnered a large fanbase as is and, as a result, many have surely been awaiting major details on the latest installment in the film franchise. And, of course, the second reason for the potential hype is the huge following that Dunst also has. Should these two fanbases come together to celebrate this news, it could spark some major social media buzz.

If Lionsgate really wanted to break the Internet, though, the studio could also confirm the return of Amanda Seyfried, who played Nina Winchester in the OG film. Seyfried has already expressed interest, though neither Feig nor any members of the team have confirmed or denied her involvement as of this writing. Even if Seyfried doesn’t reprise her role, though, the premise and combined star power of Sweeney and Dunst may be enough to appeal to fans.

Based on McFadden’s 2023 novel of the same name, The Housemaid’s Secret will once again follow Wilhelmina "Millie" Calloway (Sweeney), who takes on a housekeeping position for a woman she’s never allowed to actually see. This leads Millie into yet another mystery and one that’s filled with an array of dark secrets. From a behind-the-scenes standpoint, it’s also been confirmed that Michele Morrone will reprise her role as Enzo in the film. With Feig back in the director’s chair and Rebecca Sonnenshine taking on writing duties again, this film will hopefully be a worthy follow-up to its box office-winning predecessor.

When it comes to Kirsten Dunst’s casting, what’s particularly ironic is that she actually just landed another sequel that was on her wish list. Dunst is joining the A Minecraft Movie follow-up alongside Jack Black, Jason Momoa and co. It goes without saying that Dunst remains booked and busy, and I’m eager to see how fans react to her casting in both films, especially Housemaid.

An official release date has yet to be announced for The Housemaid’s Secret. In the meantime, fans can buy or rent The Housemaid on digital platforms.
