The hours you are asked to avoid Tesco, Lidl, Aldi, Dunnes, Supervalu and other supermarkets as phase two begins

Phase two of Ireland's reopening plan officially starts today, Monday, with plenty of changes.

One of the big changes is for cocooners who will now be allowed more freedom including being allowed shop in supermarkets during allocated hours.

Aldi, Lidl, Tesco and all other retailers have long implemented designated hours for over 70s which will now become more important.

People are asked to respect the designated times and allow elderly shoppers use the hours.

Here's those specific hours in each supermarket chain in Ireland.

Designated supermarket shopping hours

Tesco

Older people have dedicated hours up to 9am on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays in all Tesco stores.

In support of healthcare workers and emergency services personnel, dedicated shopping hours in all stores apply from Tuesday and Thursday mornings, the first hours of trading - up until 9am.

Aldi

Elderly shopping hours are from 11am to 1pm every day and people are asked to respect the times.

Lidl

Elderly shoppers are asked to use stores from 9am to 11am each day with others asked to respect these times.

Supervalu

Supervalu say they are prioritising the elderly at all times and specific hours depend on the shop.

They state on their website: "We are also very mindful of the elderly and vulnerable people in the community. Our stores are prioritising the elderly all day long and our staff are committed to ensuring these people are looked after when they visit.

"This is very much part of how we operate on a daily basis in the community.  Many of our stores have a tailored approach in place according to the specific needs of the local community they serve in, including dedicated elderly hours and checkouts."

Dunnes Stores

Dunnes Stores has designated shopping hours between 11.00am and 1pm daily for elderly customers, or who have any health issues that make them vulnerable.

Their carers are also welcome at this time and should ask if they need help especially if they are shopping for several people in one trip.
