The horrific M1 crash pictures that emergency services want you to see

Fire crews have released four pictures of a crash on the M1 as a warning to other drivers to check their treads.

During rush hour traffic at around 5pm last night (November 25) a multi-vehicle crash took place near Junction 24 of the motorway close to East Midlands Airport.

Nottinghamshire Police confirmed a number of people from the five vehicles had to be cut free and taken to hospital, but there were no major injuries reported.

Tailbacks quickly built up for several miles adding an hour onto commuters' journey times, with the motorway not fully reopening until just before 8pm, LeicestershireLive reports.

Castle Donington fire crews were among the emergency services to attend the scene, and afterwards they released photos of the vehicles involved with a safety warning for drivers to check their tyres are up to scratch.

They said: "Winter is upon us.

"Check your tyre tread depth is 1.6mm but If you have 3mm or higher the stopping distance is a whopping 44 metres better.

"So think about swapping sooner."
