The horrific Cardiff City player ratings as defensive pair have shockers in chastening Sheffield United hammering

Ryan Allsop 4

Produced some decent saves, but simply had to do better for the first goal.

Mark McGuinness 3

Actually looked quite good early on. Made some decent interventions in and around the box, but just fell apart after the first goal. Should have stood up to James McAtee far more effectively than he did. Was at fault for the third too with an absolute howler. An uncharacteristically poor performance.

Perry Ng 4

Didn't do too badly up against the challenge of Max Lowe, and made a couple of decent interventions. Game passed him by too much as Sheffield United took control.

Cedric Kipre 4

Made a couple of decent challenges and was reasonably strong in the air. Can't be blamed for the poor performances of those around him, but still wasn't good enough to turn the tide.

Jack Simpson 3

Endured another torrid time at left-back. Picked up an early yellow and was probably lucky not to be sent off. Understandably subbed.

Joe Ralls (c) 5

Unlucky not to put Cardiff back in front. Put some really good deliveries into the box, but was ultimately left with too much to do as his side struggled to keep the hosts at bay.

Ryan Wintle 4

Looked lively in the first half. Mopped up really well on the edge of his own box, but was a little too passive after the break.

Andy Rinomhota 4

Some decent defensive moments and a couple of promising contribitions, but couldn't really make his mark on the game.

Jaden Philogene 5 - Star man

Another to tail off in the second half after a promising start. Showed some nice footwork and initially looked a threat, but couldn't quite produce the goods.

Sory Kaba 5

Was a real aerial threat for much of the game. Took his penalty really well, and held up play nicely during Cardiff's bright start. But seldom looked like adding to his tally.

Kion Etete 4

Again. Showed some promise in the build-up with some tidy touches, but couldn't quite give the defence something meaningful to think about. Subbed

Subs

Callum O'Dowda (on for Simpson 45) - Got booked early on and did very little else - 3

Connor Wickham (on for Etete 61) - Rattled the bar with a brilliant effort. Briefly gave Cardiff more bite before their capitulation - 5
