The Hoppings entry rules for taking food and drink and dogs into fair as it returns to Newcastle

The sun is in the sky as The Hoppings makes its return to Newcastle this weekend, with a huge crowd expected to flock to the Town Moor over the first few days of this year's event.

Always a massive draw for locals and visitors to the city alike, The Hoppings has been part of Geordie culture for well over 100 years now, with its cancellation for two successive years, due to the Covid pandemic, coming as a huge blow to fair goers and all those involved with Europe's largest travelling funfair.

he Hoppings ride list for this year includes white knuckle favourites like the Magic Mouse, Freak Out and Atmosfear and Air, together with traditional go-tos, like waltzers, dodgems and a ghost train and a brand new addition Rocket Ride. The Hoppings food offerings are also plentiful this year, with, Redheads Mac 'n' Cheese, traditional fish and chips and the Big Fat Indian Kitchen among the vendors setting out their stall for 2023.

The Hoppings has its grand opening for this year on Friday, June 16 and the good news for fans of all things big wheels and candy floss, is that its run has been extended for this year, with it coming to an end on Sunday, June 25.

Taking food and drink in

You can take food and soft drinks in, but there will be a selection of food providers offering a vast range of hot and cold food and drinks. Food vendors at the Moor this round will include Bun DMC Gourmet Grill, Mr Chipstix, The Leaning Tower of Pizza and Wings and Things.

As ever, alcohol is not allowed to be taken in.

Are dogs allowed in?

Yes, dogs are allowed but must be kept on leads at all times.

Can you use cash to pay for rides?

Yes, but, most rides will also have the ability to take card/contactless payment
