The Honda Prelude Already Has an Aftermarket Kit from a Legendary Tuner. And It Looks Great

The new Prelude has barely been out for a few hours now, but legendary Honda tuner Mugen already has a body kit for the hybrid coupe in the works. Mugen is working on a carbon-fiber splitter, side skirts, diffuser, and spoiler, as well as a new sports exhaust, all of which are scheduled for release in 2026.

That new kit will be offered alongside the several parts Mugen already offers for the Prelude. Those include carbon-fiber door mirror covers, a very snazzy set of 19-inch forged BBS wheels, and a high-performance oil-filter element. There’s also a set of "performance dampers," developed in tandem with Yamaha, that install in the front and rear to reduce chassis flexing.

On top of that, there are lots of Mugen accessories, like oil-filler and radiator caps, floor mats, sill plates, lug nuts, a fabric cover for the brake-fluid reservoir—why you’d need this, I don’t know—and decals. Nothing that will transform the way your Prelude drives, but it looks cool all the same.

Mugen Motorsports is a tuning company founded by Hiritoshi Honda, the son of Honda founder Soichiro. It currently races in Japan’s Super GT and Super Formula series, and it offers aftermarket parts for many Honda models. Naturally, it has a cult following among Honda fans and a close relationship with Honda itself despite being a separate company.

Honda pitches the Prelude as a sort of sporty, affordable grand tourer. It is, essentially, a coupe version of the Civic Hybrid, sharing that car’s 200-horsepower, two-motor powertrain. It introduces a new drive mode, S+ Shift, which uses the electric motors to simulate the power delivery of an internal-combustion engine paired with a traditional transmission. It also revs the engine itself to add to the sensation. So, that sports exhaust may come in handy.

These parts are listed on Mugen’s Japanese website, and King Motorsports Unlimited, Mugen’s US distributor, says the full Mugen line for the Prelude will arrive next spring.
