The Holiday's picturesque village in Surrey ruined by tourists, annoyed locals say

Locals of the picturesque village used in the iconic film The Holiday have complained that tourists have ruined it.

The movie, starring Cameron Diaz and Kate Winslet, was filmed partly in Shere in Surrey, and fans of the classic Christmas film arrive every year to follow in the cast's footsteps.

December seems to be the worst time as parking and traffic have become a nightmare, according to the locals.

Furthermore, much of the housing in the village between Dorking and Guildford has transformed into Airbnb's and rentals.

One resident said that it's 'absolutely awful' as there's nowhere to park and you 'can't even walk down the street safely'.

"It’s very unpleasant for the people who live here," she added.

Another resident told The Sun that locals have to queue to get a parking space at The White Horse pub, which Jude Law visited in the movie.

One local revealed that if there are 20 people during weekdays then there are 'five times that on a weekend'.

A resident said: "Before the pandemic, there was only one Airbnb in the village but now there are far more."

Meanwhile, it was recently reported that the 2006 classic will get a sequel and fans will able to see where the characters are after all those years.

Cameron, 50, Kate, 47, Jude, 49, and Jack, 53, have all reportedly signed up to start filming the hit film's predecessor next year – a source has claimed.

The insider added to The Sun: "The plan is to start rolling on scenes next year, primarily in the U.K. and in Europe, but the main talent are all signed up and on board.

"It’s one of the most successful movies of its kind and still enjoyed every year by millions of fans around the world – it makes perfect sense to revisit those characters and find out what became of their lives after they hooked up.

"It’ll be funny, poignant, and heartwarming – just what everyone wants for Christmas."

The Holiday sees two women swap homes for the festive period – with Iris (Kate) staying in Amanda's (Cameron) swanky Los Angeles pad while Amanda retreats to Iris' country escape.

Both are looking for a change of pace to their lives after suffering bad breakups, but end up finding themselves falling in love in one another's worlds – with Amanda falling for Iris' brother Graham (Jude) and Iris finding love with Amanda's colleague, Miles ( Jack Black ).
