The holiday destinations including the Balerics and Malta which have been added to green list today

The government's updated green list of countries that people from England will be able to travel to without having to quarantine on their return has come into effect today.

The travel update is a big boost for holidaymakers who are looking to get away for the summer.

The government announced the changes last Thursday and they were officially added from 4am on Wednesday morning.

Among those added to the list are popular tourist destinations such as Matla, the Balearic Islands and Barbados.

While the green list means no quarantine is required when returning to the UK, holidaymakers should check with the country they plan to travel to on specific restrictions they may face on entry. This may include rules on testing and vaccines.

All additions to the green list apart from Malta will also join the ‘green watchlist’, as will Israel - signalling that these countries are at risk of moving from green to amber.

These are the countries now on the green list (the new additions from today in bold)
