The historic lighthouse home with breathtaking views of the Welsh coast that could be yours

An amazing lighthouse property in north Wales has gone back on the market. Point Lynas is a Grade II listed building on Anglesey’s north coast.

Located near Amlwch, the site has been a lighthouse since 1779 when two oil lamps with small metal reflectors were used to guide ships, North Wales Live reports. A new lighthouse was built in 1835 by the Mersey Docks and Harbour Board at a cost of £1,165.

Trinity House assumed responsibility for Point Lynas in 1973. The station is now fully automated and operated remotely from Harwich in Essex, backed up by standby generators which cut in should the mains power fail.

The 1,000-watt lamp can light the way for 20 miles as it keeps shipping away from the rugged coast. The lighthouse is currently owned by Robin and Iona Beckmann who bought it from Mersey Docks and Harbour Board back in 2001.

Over the last 10 years, the lighthouse property has been slowly restored, retaining all the original features but providing modern facilities. The site also includes two holiday cottages on either wing.

It was previously on the market but then withdrawn last year. Now the site has been re-listed with Williams and Goodwin with a price tag of £1,195,000.

The estate agent said: "A unique and rare opportunity to acquire a Grade 2 listed Lighthouse sitting in approximately 17 acres of headland with breath-taking views of the Irish Sea. Set within castle style walling the accommodation offers a three bedroomed detached house currently used as owners’ accommodation and two three bedroomed cottages currently used as holiday lets and providing, in our opinion, an excellent income.

"There is further income potential with the main house should the future owner choose to run that also as a holiday let. Viewing is highly recommended to truly appreciate what is on offer." You can get stories like this straight to your inbox with our property newsletter.
