The 'hidden oasis' Leeds farm where you can feed the animals and kids get in for 50p

As the school summer holidays draw near, parents are looking for new places to entertain their kids - especially after a year and a half under restrictions.

Meanwood Valley Urban Farm could be the perfect choice for a family day out, with no need for booking.

The farm, located just 15 minutes drive outside the centre of Leeds, is open every day of the year for visitors to see a variety of animals and woodland.

There are three alpacas on the farm, as well as sheep, goats, pigs, cows and chickens that the kids can feed.

The Barn Coffeeshop is on hand with refreshments and free WiFi at the site.

Many reviewers on TripAdvisor have lauded their experience at the farm.

One visitor last year called the farm a "hidden oasis", saying: "I went down with a friend and our babies last week, one in a baby carrier and the other in a pram.

"He's only a baby so didn't really have a clue what was going on but was pretty transfixed with the alpacas! For a little farm there are lots of animals to see, we spotted pigs, cows, sheep, goats, ducks, chickens and the aforementioned alpacas."

They added: "If you're looking for a little stroll, some plants and animals to entertain little ones for a couple of hours and a nice cuppa at the end then it's a fantastic place to visit and excellent value for money."

Other reviewers enjoyed walking among the wildlife and plants, and were surprised at how close the farm was to the city.

Entry is free for children under two (TripAdvisor)

Another reviewer wrote: "Great for a couple of casual hours, we hand fed the alpacas, sheep and goats with packets of food pellets bought in the shop and then had lunch in the cafe, a little gem of a place.

"We had bacon and egg butties and delicious cakes that actually tasted homemade. Blissfully unsophisticated it almost felt we'd been transported back to the 1960s."

The farm has an average 4.0 star rating out of 5 on TripAdvisor, based on 163 reviews.

Pictures uploaded by TripAdvisor reviewers show families getting the chance to meet the animals on the farm.

The farm's indoor EpiCentre with turtles remains closed for the moment due to Covid-19 restrictions.

It's just 50p for kids to visit to farm, and £2.50 for adults. Any children under two can enter for free.

The farm is open from 10am to 3pm everyday, and the café remains open until 4pm.

There is a small car park on site, but the owners caution it does fill up during busy periods.
