The 'hidden gem' that is now officially the best place to eat in Southport

Merseyside has no shortage of incredible restaurants, which makes stumbling upon a hidden gem is rarer than ever.

Southport’s Bistro 21, which is tucked away just off the thriving Lord Street , is hailed as such - and is even the seaside town’s number one restaurant according to Trip Advisor .

The restaurant was opened in October 2013 by owner Jan Atkinson and has just nine tables, so diners have to be quick to get a seat.

Bistro 21 offers a range of different menus including a la carte, table d’hote, tasting, vegan, vegetarian, and gluten free, all of which are changed every 10 weeks or so.

Since opening, the intimate restaurant has “gone from strength to strength”, keeping its homey environment and remaining one of Southport’s most loved restaurants.

Jan said: “Since our opening we have gone strength to strength.

“We’ve been number one on Trip Advisor for Southport for most of our six years - and occasionally even in all of Merseyside.

“Myself and head chef Michael Glayzer, who has been with Bistro 21 since the beginning, take pride in our food and service”.

Bistro 21 has been selected for the Good Food Guide for the past six years too.

Reviewers seen captivated by the tiny restaurant, with one even calling it “the best restaurant in Southport by a mile”.

Another reviewer said: “This is not just the best restaurant in Southport I would say it is the best thing about the town”.

Another said: “Hidden away in a side street running parallel to Lord St you could be forgiven for missing it.

“But to find it means return visits are inevitable”.
