The Henrikh Mkhitaryan decision facing Mikel Arteta and Arsenal ahead of summer transfer window

Henrikh Mkhitaryan is facing an uncertain future at Arsenal ahead of the summer transfer window.

The Armenian international is currently on loan at Roma, where he has played 17 times so far this season, scoring six times for the Serie A side.

He has had injury problems during his time with Roma, but reports in Italy suggest that the Serie A side want to extend his stay in the capital.

Corriere dello Sport report that Roma were keen to make the move permanent for a fee in the region of €15million with add-ons, but have been put off by Arsenal's demands, with the Gunners reportedly asking for around €24million for the 31-year-old.

The most expensive Premier League transfers ever

However, Gazzetta dello Sport have reported that Roma are now exploring the possibility of loaning Mkhitaryan for another year.

And the report suggests that Mkhitaryan's agent, Mino Raiola, is trying to negotiate a deal with Arsenal for Mkhitaryan to extend his contract with the Gunners on a lower wage.

Mkhitaryan's current contract with Arsenal runs out in June 2021, with the Armenian joining the Gunners in January 2018 from Manchester United.

He has played 39 times for Arsenal in the Premier League and featured three times at the beginning of the season, before making the move to Roma on loan.

Arsenal head coach Mikel Arteta has not worked with Mkhitaryan yet since succeeding Unai Emery at the Emirates Stadium, and the Spaniard may yet be open to the possibility of the Armenian midfielder staying in north London.
