People use parasols as shields against the strong sunlight in Shibuya Ward, Tokyo, on Monday. The Japan Meteorological Agency said Monday that the rainy season is considered to have ended in the Koshin and Kanto regions, including Tokyo, eight days later than in the average year and 30 days later than last year. Only the Tohoku region remains in the rainy season.
Temperatures on Monday rose across the country. By noon, the temperature reached 36 C in Kamaishi, Iwate Prefecture, and 33 C in central Tokyo. The weather is expected to remain sunny for about one week nationwide. The JMA advises taking measures to prevent heatstroke, such as staying hydrated, getting enough salt, and wearing a hat or using a parasol outdoors.
