The haywire Cardiff City player ratings as dependable stars have off days in Blackburn Rovers defeat

Cardiff City suffered their first defeat since football restarted on Tuesday night, going down 3-2 in an eventful defeat to Blackburn Rovers.

Here's how the Bluebirds rated on a damp night at the Cardiff City Stadium.

Alex Smithies 6

Made a goal-saving intervention to deny Dominic Samuel his second and was lobbed from 40 yards for the third, but difficult to lay the blame at his door for that.

Dion Sanderson 5

Adam Armstrong had some joy down his side while he was trying to defend. Didn't have much luck in attack.

Sean Morrison 5

Was crucial in clearing away a number of early crosses which bombarded the City box. But the pace of the game just got to him a little later on.

Curtis Nelson 4

Almost gave a penalty away before the second goal and had a couple of uncharacteristically scary moments. A rare off day with a few errors in there.

Joe Bennett 6

Excellent for City's second goal, a trademark overlapping run before a lovely cross into Robert Glatzel. Did his utmost to join the City attack in the first half.

Will Vaulks 7 (star man)

A tremendous goal to get City underway, lobbing the keeper on the half-volley. Was so loud in midfield and looks to be turning into a real leader.

Leandro Bacuna 4

Has been Mr Consistent for the Bluebirds of late but another one who had an off day. Played a horrible pass for Adam Armstrong's incredible goal and generally sloppier than what we have been accustomed to..

Josh Murphy 5

An excellent ball to release Joe Bennett before the second goal. But was blunted a few times just when City needed to ramp things up.

Joe Ralls 7

Has really grown into this playmaker role. He is like a little puppeteer in there now. That cultured left foot can be a joy to watch.

Junior Hoilett 5

Involved in a couple of nice build-up moves and fired a good chance wide early on, but City could have done with more cutting edge from the flank.

Robert Glatzel 7

Did tremendously on his return to the fold. Ran all night and was in the right place at the right time to slot home the second.

Subs

Lee Tomlin (on for Vaulks 71) 5

Was brought on to make a real impact but failed to find the magic of a few days ago.

Danny Ward (on for Glatzel 71) 5

See above, really.

Callum Paterson (on for Murphy 71) 5

Couldn't quite affect the game when City reverted to long throws and crosses into the box late on.
