The haunted Leeds pub where people have witnessed 'strange goings on'

At least four ghosts have been spotted at a haunted Leeds pub which used to be a mortuary.

The Abbey Inn, in Bramley, has an interesting history behind it that many people may not know about.

For hundreds of years between the 1800s until the 1950s, in Pollard Lane, close to the River Aire was a mortuary.

Bodies that were found in the river were taken there, according to the Aire Rivers Trust.

Over the years it has been said that at least four ghosts are said to visit the bar. Two of the ghosts that have been seen include a grey lady, a man with a Guy Fawkes-style hat and a mysterious cloaked figure.

James, who works at the pub and lives upstairs told Leeds Live that people have seen strange things happening when they have been at the pub but he isn’t frightened.

“I’ve seen things happen,” he said. “There’s a lot of history and strange goings-on here. I know the history of it being a morgue, we have customers whose relatives were embalmers.

“It doesn’t bother me (living at the pub), I’ve never seen goings-on upstairs only downstairs. I’ve seen things chucked from the counters to the other side of the room.

“People have seen things when they’ve been here.”
