'The harsh reality' - Bristol Rovers boss Graham Coughlan admits Gas' transfer business may be over for the summer

Bristol Rovers boss Graham Coughlan is resigned to making no further additions to his squad with a week of the summer transfer window remaining.

The Gas have made eight new signings so far, while there has been a number of high-profile departures including club captain Tom Lockyer and fans' favourites Stuart Sinclair and Chris Lines.

Despite the influx of players, Coughlan had been keen to add to his options before the deadline at 5pm on Monday, September 2.

However, the Irishman has conceded that that is looking increasingly unlikely as the cut-off approaches.

Speaking ahead of the Carabao Cup visit of Brighton on Tuesday, Coughlan said: "As far as incomings, the harsh reality might be I can't do anything, I may not be able to do anything in this window.

"As much as I'd like, as much as I'd want and as much as we've identified, I know there's areas of the team that need strengthening but it's a situation that I've inherited and I just work with the hand I'm dealt.

"It's not ideal but it is a distinct possibility that I may not be able to bring a player in in this window."

Meanwhile, the Gas manager did hint that there could yet be further departures at the Mem.

He added: "If a player knocks on my door and says he wants to depart that's natural, I can't stop that.

"Every player wants to play, they want to start, so if one player wants to move on I'll help him, I'll back him whatever the case may be."
