The harsh accusation made against Miguel Almiron as he brushes off international injury scare

Miguel Almiron's injury scare has subsided as he returned to training with Paraguay ahead of a crunch World Cup qualifier with Venezuela.

But the Newcastle forward will head into the match on the back of criticism, with a prominent pundit in his home country accusing of him of having "speed but no skill" and others suggesting he isn't being deployed in the right position for his international team.

Almiron was stretchered off on a medical cart at the end of Paraguay's ill-tempered 2-2 draw with Peru, after being elbowed in the face in the first half.

There were fears that he may miss the Manchester United game with a muscle injury but he was back in first team training on Saturday afternoon. The knock was "not serious" and after treatment he has prepared as normal for Tuesday's game.

His country's hopes rest on his shoulders but there was frustration after an ineffective performance playing wide on the right.

That led former Paraguay international, manager and now journalist Carlos Kiese to tell a local radio station he felt Almiron has "speed but no skill" in a quote that divided opinion.

Kiese started trending on Twitter with many fans jumping to Almiron's defence and sharing videos of him in action for Newcastle.

It caps a strange start to the season for the popular forward.

For his country, he probably needs to be deployed in the number 10 role that he occupied so effectively last season and for Rafa Benitez.

He has started the season with a goal and three assists but was benched for the Burnley game as Steve Bruce continues to tinker with his line-up. United won the match 3-1 but Bruce continues to see Almiron as a big part of his plans moving forward.
