The Harry Winks to Rangers transfer that came close to happening after Tottenham star traveled north

Tottenham star Harry Winks came extremely close to signing for Rangers.

The England international was shown around the club’s Auchenhowie training base by Mark Warburton with the Gers keen to take him on loan and Spurs seemingly happy for him to gain first team experience at Ibrox.

This was in full view of the rest of the Rangers squad, as Andy Halliday recalled the Tottenham man being close to agreeing a move.

He told Open Goal: "I remember doing a warm-up and Harry Winks came in for a day. He didn't train though.

"I think everything was agreed and he was coming anyway. He was at the training ground being shown about. He didn't train.

"A day later, it didn't happen. He stayed at Tottenham."

Now 25, Winks has established himself as a key man for the North London club, breaking through under Mauricio Pochettino before cementing his place in the first team under Jose Mourinho.

He’s likely to be in Gareth Southgate’s England squad for this summer’s Euro 2020 finals and could line up against Scotland when they face the Auld Enemy at Wembley on 19 June.
