The Harry Kane to Manchester United transfer claim that looks a bit foolish now

The seemingly annual Harry Kane transfer rumours are rearing their head again.

That is down to the Tottenham striker refusing to rule out leaving the club he has spent his entire career with, barring a few loan spells.

Speaking during an Instagram live Q&A with former Tottenham man Jamie Redknapp, Kane said: "I'll always love Spurs, but I've always said if I don't feel like we're progressing as a team or going in the right direction, I'm not someone to stay there just for the sake of it."

It was nothing the Spurs man hasn't said before, but it served as a reminder to Daniel Levy and Jose Mourinho that they need to step up next season, following the first year since Kane has been in the first team that the Lilywhites have not progressed.

Will Tottenham keep Harry Kane?

Kane has been linked with a move to Manchester United this summer, a move he has been tipped to make before, but the £150million price tag on his head, once the coronavirus outbreak dies down, could be too rich even for the Old Trafford heads to muster.

The 2014/15 campaign was Kane's breakout season with Spurs. He played 51 games in all competitions, scoring 31 goals.

And it led to speculation that he could move to United for a fee in the region of £40million.

That price tag led to former Manchester United and England defender Rio Ferdinand speaking out and calling it "a joke".

And that fee would certainly be a joke now, for a player of Kane's standing in the game.

Ferdinand said: "English players are soooo overpriced right now it's a joke! Kane & Sterling have huge potential but 40m & 50m...Aguero 38m & [Alexis] Sanchez 32m!!!"

Ferdinand did temper the comment by saying that Kane had huge potential, and that potential has certainly been fulfilled and then some, but the former defender's comment definitely looks a little foolish now.
