The half-time sign that showed why Liverpool were destined to win the Champions League

Referee Damir Skomina blew the whistle and both Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur players traipsed towards the tunnel at the Estadio Metropolitano.

With Mohamed Salah having converted a penalty after just two minutes following Moussa Sissoko's needless handball, Jurgen Klopp's side held the slenderest of advantages at the interval.

Inside the dressing room, there were doubtless discussions about how best to manage the game, protect the lead and fend off the expected strong Tottenham response.

But there was a very good reason for Liverpool to feel quietly confident.

In the 27 previous times the Reds had led at half-time during the season, they had gone on to win every single game.

Sure enough, a sixth European Cup was sealed when substitute Divock Origi struck with three minutes remaining.

And it secured a 2-0 win - the most popular scoreline for Liverpool this season.

Oh, and there was the fact Tottenham were wearing white - the same as all five previous teams Liverpool have beaten in the European Cup final.

It was another example of how glory in Madrid was a fitting ending to a brilliant campaign for Klopp and his players.
