A UK firm has produced Britain's first halal
chocolate bar, today's Daily Mirror reports.
Essex-based Ummah Foods has created the snack, which is guaranteed not to have come into contact with alcohol or meat products. Even the glue in the wrapping has not come from animal products.
The firm said it decided to launch Ummah Caramel because mainstream manufacturers were not meeting the needs of the sweeter toothed among the UK's three million Muslims. An orange cream version - insha'Allah - is forthcoming.
In April, Mecca Cola, part of a "Muslim-friendly" range of drinks, was launched by a Derbyshire company as part of a backlash against US brands including Coca-Cola.
