Saturday

Paul Merton Looks at Alfred Hitchcock
9pm, BBC4
Merton (the man who viewed too much?) follows his acclaimed Silent Clowns series by delving into the early films, techniques and methods of the master of suspense. There's a "dark vein of fun" in all of them, he reckons.

The Old Guys
9.40pm, BBC1
Sally lends Tom and Roy an isolated cottage in Scotland. It's not Withnail and I, but this gentle comedy from Peep Show creators Sam Bain and Jesse Armstrong has proved a hit.

The Bourne Supremacy
9pm, ITV1
The middle part of the superbly crafted trilogy, with Matt Damon as the amnesiac CIA assassin. Relentless pace, hi-tech espionage and crunching violence.

Sunday

Damages
10.20pm, BBC1
There's trouble ahead for Daniel, played by the superb William Hurt. Not complicated enough for you so far? That's all about to change . . .

Being Human
9pm, BBC3
The supernatural house share drama reaches its season finale. Don't worry about vampire withdrawal symptoms – it's back for another eight-part series next year.

Ross Kemp: Return to Afghanistan
10pm, Sky1
The hardman continues to show his soft side, meeting injured soldiers in the UK and the British ambassador in Kabul.
