Graham Snowdon, editor of the Guardian Work section, has been recognised for his outstanding writing in the Towers Watson awards for excellence in HR journalism.

Snowdon was awarded HR journalist of the year in the national media category for pieces which included an analysis of work hours and salaries, his trial of a combined nursery and shared business space to combat childcare problems, and how graduates can beat unemployment by applying for jobs overseas.

Chantal Free, UK head of rewards, talent and communications at Towers Watson, said: "Our panel of judges were impressed with the diversity, quality and engaging style of all the submissions, and were particularly amazed by the broad range of media where HR management issues are now covered.

"There have been dramatic changes in the last year, pushing business firmly to the front of newspapers and magazines. All submissions show that in these times HR management issues are both important and high on the corporate agenda."
