The Guardian Media Group published its financial results today, showing the company generated revenues of £275.9m with impressive growth in all regions.

Total revenues increased by £18.1 million to £275.9m (from £257.8m in 2023/24). Adjusted cash outflow for the operating business decreased to £24.3m (2024: £36.5m). This reflects increased revenues, disciplined cost control, and on-going strategic investments in journalism, technology and commercial capabilities.

Part of this growth is due to the Guardian successfully adapting to changing media consumption habits. Digital revenues from readers, advertisers, and other sources now make up 72% of total revenues, with digital reader revenues increasing by 21.7% to £107.3m (from £88.2m in 2023/24). The number of digital recurring supporters also increased by over 150,000 to 1.3m, with growth in all markets.

A concerted effort to expand the Guardian’s global footprint is paying off. Revenue from outside the UK increased by 16.3% to £105.5m (from £90.7m in 2023/24). Over 38% of total revenue now comes from outside the UK, with notable growth in US operations, where revenue increased by a noteworthy 22.5% to £55.5m.

The Guardian has published its annual report, capturing a year of remarkable achievement for the Guardian, with growth, innovation and fearless journalism across all its channels and editions.

Guardian Media Group chief executive Anna Bateson said:

“In a world increasingly shaped by disinformation and division, the Guardian’s trusted journalism stands as a powerful counterforce. That’s why it is fundamental that we are in a strong financial position and continue to make progress with our strategy to be more global, more digital and more reader-funded. A well defined growth strategy and careful cost control meant we closed the year ahead of expectations on both revenue and cost, which is a significant achievement in a turbulent market.”

Guardian editor-in-chief Katharine Viner said:

“At a time when media freedom is under threat, we’re growing our global operation with rigorous, independent journalism that is freely available to all. The Guardian is now supported by more than 1.3 million readers around the world. It’s a remarkable number and testament to our powerful relationship with our audience, our strategy of continuous innovation and how much our readers care about Guardian journalism.”

Guardian Media Group chair Charles Gurassa said:

“The news media sector continues to experience rapid transformation. The Guardian has responded by embracing the challenges and setting out on an ambitious long-term investment plan to become more accessible to global audiences. The figures released today are a positive step in the right direction in a challenging environment for our industry.”
