The growing importance of results can't be lost on Leeds Rhinos

The growing question among the Leeds Rhinos fanbase is simple.

Is this a must-win game?

There's no hiding from the fact that Leeds Rhinos haven't had the start they've wanted. They've won two of their first seven league games and are out of the Challenge Cup. That has left them in ninth position and not where the Rhinos need to be.

Tonight they play Castleford, which is followed by games with St Helens and Catalans, who both occupy places in the top three.

As such, there's a fair case to make that, should they lose tonight, the likelihood is they'll be playing catch up with those in the play-off spots.

Yet if you're the optimistic type, things don't look all too bleak.

Leeds remain just two wins short of the play-offs. Victory tonight will leave them one victory short of Castleford, who are currently in the top six.

Clearly, tonight is an opportunity to get the season and up and running and leave themselves in a relatively decent position to make the play-offs with 17 games remaining.

On the contrary, defeat, especially given the games upcoming, will leave them with plenty of work to do, even at this early stage of the year.

Excluding the disastrous performance against Hull KR, Leeds haven't been a million miles off. They haven't been good enough to win games, certainly against in-form sides like St Helens and Hull FC, but they've competed to the very end.

Eventually, performances need to be converted into results, though performances probably need to be a little better, especially against the top sides, to get those wins.

The key for Leeds tonight is an improved offensive display. In many of their narrow defeats, territory hasn't been an issue. Converting that into points has been the major stumbling block.

Must win? Not quite. But that won't be too far away if defeat comes tonight.
