The Grove set for glow up as favourite Finnieston pub plans makeover

One of Glasgow's most iconic pubs is set for a makeover.

The Grove, on Kelvingrove Street, a Finnieston institution, will soon be given a fresh lick of paint - if proposals make it past the planners at Glasgow City Council.

Documents submitted to the planning department reveal the bar's instantly recognisable frontage is to be given an overhaul.

Meanwhile, the plans, submitted on behalf of pub owners Greene King, also signal the intention for "a forthcoming internal refurbishment".

Artist impressions detailing the proposed new frontage display a desire for an all green brickwork-style frontage, and a gold sign with bold, black lettering.

Submitted earlier this month, the plans are currently under consideration by the Council.

Within the documents, it is stated: "As part of a forthcoming internal refurbishment of the premises to further improve the facilities offered to its customers, the external faces of the building are to be redecorated.

"The colours chosen for this redecoration work are sympathetic to the buildings prominent position on Kelvingrove Street  and will be in keeping with the setting and style of the building.

"The colours chosen also represent the corporate identity of Greene King plc premises throughout the United Kingdom."

Pints have been pulled at the property since the 19th Century - before becoming The Grove, the bar operated as the Tower Bar and The Flugga.

The pub forms part of a B-listed property, understood to have been built in 1854, and also falls within the St Vincent Conservation area.

In recent times, the old-school watering hole has become somewhat of a cult hero in Finnieston, having outlasted the extensive gentrification in the west end area.

The documents can be viewed on full on the Glasgow City Council website.
