The Grove House Hotel is closing its doors due to the pandemic

The Grove House Hotel in Wirral has closed its doors due to the pandemic and the uncertainty about the future.

The three-star Wallasey venue on Grove Road had been the place of choice for many local residents to hold birthdays, weddings and anniversaries.

Posting in Facebook groups through a friend, owners Nick and Michele Burn thanked customers for all their support over the years.

They said: "We are very sorry to announce the hotel has sold very recently - all of our staff have now been informed.

"Due to Covid 19 and the uncertainty moving forward we decided we would accept an offer from a developer.

"I’d like to thank all of our loyal customers and staff for all of their continued support and kind wishes.

They were flooded with messages following the announcement, many sad to see it go, but also understood their response to a challenging year.

One said: "Awww our favourite venue, so many happy memories here with my parents, every birthday wedding anniversary and more... Good luck for your future

Another commented: "So sad, the Grove has been a part of lots of our family events over the years... sad to see it go."

Another said: "So sad but understandable. The Grove House was our family choice of venue for many, many celebrations.

"I never had a less than excellent meal there the staff were always professional, friendly and accommodating.

"It will be a great loss to the Wallasey Village community and to Wallasey as a whole.

"Thank you to Nick, Michele and the team for creating many happy memories. Wishing them a happy retirement and that their excellent staff move on to new adventures."

Another said: "You were on my list for our first dinner out after lockdown! You will be missed as we’ve had many special occasions with you.

"We will always remember how special you made our daughter’s wedding day. Sending love to Nick, Michele and all the lovely staff from over the years"

And another added: "Nick, Michele and their staff have served the local community for many years to the highest standard and given their all in every event they hosted.

"They should be proud of what they have achieved and we should all be honoured to have been a part of what they did."

The owners were contacted for comment.
