The Grind: Vol. 6 Details What’s Next for Skate. Ahead of Season 1

The skate. team has released The Grind: Vol. 6, outlining what’s on the horizon as the game heads toward its first full season. The update touches on visual changes, new systems, and plans for content that will roll out in the months ahead.

What’s Coming In Skate?

One of the main talking points is the lighting system, which is described as the first step toward a broader visual overhaul. The adjustments are designed to bring a more grounded, less high-contrast look, with the Full Circle team noting that community feedback will continue to guide how the game’s presentation evolves.

Looking ahead, Season 1 will establish a cadence of regular updates, with new skateable areas, themed seasonal events, and rotating challenges. Full Circle and EA are also lining up partnerships with brands like Santa Cruz, Independent, and Creature, which will show up through cosmetics and gear. Seasonal events such as “Skate-o-ween” and “Maple Harvest” are expected to expand the game’s calendar with more community-driven activities. A handful of new tracks, featuring artists like Operation Ivy and Jurassic 5, will also join the soundtrack.

Season 1 also introduces the “skate.Pass”, a progression track where players can earn in-game seasonal currency called Tix by playing the game. Rewards are spread across free and premium tracks, with over 80 customization options available, ranging from decks to outfits. The system is meant to give players a clear path to earning items while leaving optional purchases for those who want quicker access. In short, it’s a battle pass. You already know how those work.

EA Commits To Keeping Microtransactions Limited To Cosmetics

In my early access review of skate., I was extremely critical of EA’s in-game monetization and how overbearing it is. That said, if I can give them credit on just one thing, you don’t have to spend money on anything but cosmetics. And, props to ’em — that isn’t changing.

In a Q&A section that was included with the press release, EA/Full Circle reiterated that new tricks (such as darkslides) will be introduced as early as Season 3, and that they will in no way require players to reach into their wallets to use them.
