Players and fans from across the world of football have paid tribute to former Cardiff City star Chris Barker.
News emerged on Thursday morning confirming that Barker had tragically passed away at the age of 39, and messages have been pouring in throughout the day.
Unsurprisingly, a large number of former Bluebirds stars were among those to pay tribute.
Charlton and Wales midfielder Joe Ledley tweeted: "Devastating news to hear the loss of Chris Barker. My thoughts are with his family and friends.
"One of the most down to earth guys I've met.
"Will be truly missed. Rest in peace Barks."
Former City team mate Danny Gabbidon added that Barker was "an outstanding person & one of the most consistent performers I’ve had the honour of playing with."
Darren Purse, Greg Halford and Matthew Connolly were among the others to offer their condolences, as too were the many other clubs Barker played for and coached during a career that spanned over 20 years.
A spokesperson for Forest Green Rovers, where Barker was working as an under-18s coach said: "We're all heartbroken to hear this news, which came as a shock to everybody. Our immediate thoughts are with his family and friends.
In a statement, the EFL added: "The EFL was shocked and saddened to hear the tragic news".
Barker started his playing career with Barnsley before spending five years at Cardiff between 2002 and 2007, where he made 162 appearances for the Bluebirds.
Spells at Stoke City, Colchester United, QPR, Plymouth, Southend, Aldershot, Hereford and Weston-super-Mare followed, before he eventually retired in 2017.
