The Greggs festive bake is coming back - and it's sooner than you think

The red cups in Starbucks, the Coca-Cola truck, and the Greggs festive bake - all signs that the Great British Christmas is on the doorstep.

Summer may have barely begun but today Greggs has revealed the return date for one of its most beloved baked goods.

The festive bake - usually filled with chicken breast, sage and onion stuffing, bacon and a sage and cranberry sauce, with a crumb topping - will be back on the shelves on November 7.

That means there's just 100 days to go until you can sink your teeth back into the most Christmassy of fast foodstuffs.

The pastry peddlers shared the news on Twitter earlier today, with a ribbon-wrapped festive bake cradled in a pair of hands.

Naturally, Greggs fans are delighted to hear the news.

Many are also crying out for a vegan festive bake for 2019, following on from the phenomenal success of the vegan sausage roll that was launched in early January.

The meat-free pasty has been linked to the bakery chain's remarkable sales growth so far this year, which has seen its first-half profit rise by 58 per cent.

The news comes on the same day that Greggs has opened a brand new branch at the Trafford Centre, opposite Next.

The countdown to the festive bake is very much on - we'll see you at the counter.
