I fly a lot, and I am on the tour bus a lot: I use a lot of energy in my life. I have started learning about carbon offsetting, but I haven't got around to researching it properly yet.

I don't know. I need to find that out.
What was the last green thing you did?
I recycle very carefully.
If you could buy any green gadget - wormery, solar panels, etc - what would it be?
I'm about to get a hybrid car. I haven't had a car for a while. I'm on the road so much, and I live in New York, so I don't really drive much here.
What wakes you up in the night?
If I have a weird dream. Or sometimes if I've left the TV on.
Do you have skills for a post-oil world?
I guess you don't need oil to sing, or to play the piano.
What would you save come the floods?
My laptop. It has got everything on it - my photographs, my music. They are the heirlooms of the modern age. John Legend will be playing at Wembley on Saturday as part of Live Earth.
