A co-production between S4C and Channel 4 scooped a BAFTA UK award last night.
Tŷ am Ddim (The Great House Giveaway) took the BAFTA UK award for Daytime against ITV's The Chase, Jimmy McGovern's Moving On for BBC 1 and Richard Osman's House of Games for BBC 2.
Tŷ am Ddim by Chwarel Production Company, based in Gwynedd, gives two people a free house to renovate for 6 months - any profit they make, they keep.
The first series aired on S4C in October 2019 gave many young people opportunities to pursue their dreams of renovating houses. An English language version - The Great House Giveaway- also aired on Channel 4 and was their best performing new 4pm launch.
Series producer Sioned Morys made her acceptance speech in Welsh thanking S4C and Channel 4.
Chwarel, based in Criccieth, was founded in 2001 by director, producer and entrepreneur Sioned - and previous successes include The Horse Hoarder and Children’s Ward,
Llinos Wynne, S4C's Factual Commissioner, said: "This is the first joint commission between S4C and Channel 4 and it’s a production model that has worked extremely well.
"Tŷ am Ddim discusses one of the great social issues of our time, helping young people pursue their dreams to step onto the property ladder, and we are already filming the second series.
"Congratulations to Chwarel Production Company and all the team. ”
This is the second national broadcast award for S4C to win in over a week. On 27 May Dim Ysgol: Maesincla won the Broadcast award for best production during the lockdown.
