The Great Fatigue: Third of Londoners fear they’re heading for burnout

The return to active work and social lives has left Londoners on the brink of burnout, with many more exhausted than ever before.

Two years post-pandemic, the return to offices and commuting has left 46 per cent of Londoners more tired than ever and over a third worried that they are headed towards burnout, according to an independent survey by Arctic Coffee.

Current world events over the last two years appear to have impacted the nation’s mental wellbeing too, as over half said they felt there was no good news in the world right now, with worry for the future.

Mental health charity Mind advised people to prioritise their wellbeing throughout the workday by taking regular breaks and having open conversations with friends and family.

Baker Jamie Finn, who competed in the 2019 series of Great British Bake Off, said: “After spending much of the last two years at home with my family, I’ve found it difficult to find time for myself since Covid restrictions were lifted.

“I’ve noticed that my energy levels have taken a real dip in the last few weeks and I’ve felt quite lethargic, so while I’ve made an effort to take regular breaks, I’m definitely relying on coffee to help kick-start my day.”
