The Great Exhibition Road Festival: Free festival in South Kensington will recreate Great Exhibition of 1851

The Royal Albert Hall, the V&A and the Science Museum are among venues taking part in a celebration of South Kensington’s scientific and cultural footprint this weekend.

The Great Exhibition Road Festival will feature more than 150 events from museums, galleries, concert halls and research centres, inspired by the Great Exhibition of 1851.

Marking 200 years since the birth of both Queen Victoria and Prince Albert, the festival aims to recreate Albert’s vision of the area as “Albertopolis”, the world’s first planned cultural quarter for learning and creativity.

The festival is split into 10 interactive zones, focusing on nature, space, robotics and greener futures. Highlights include an interactive biofeedback installation where breathing transforms into light, spacesuits that you can try on, hydrogen-powered car racing and an HD journey through the solar system accompanied by the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra.

The Natural History Museum, Royal College of Music, Serpentine Galleries and Imperial College London are also among the institutions taking part.

The Great Exhibition Road Festival takes place from June 28-30, greatexhibitionroadfestival.co.uk
