The Great British Bake Off 2022: Contestants announced as Scots music teacher leads line-up

Fans are over the moon that the Great British Bake Off has confirmed it's returning to our screens on September 13.

Judges Paul Hollywood and Dame Prue Leith, and presenters Matt Lucas and Noel Fielding will be back in the show’s famous tent for another series of signature technical and showstopper bakes.

And as baking enthusiasts across the UK gear up for the big kick off, full details of this year's lineup have now been announced, as we get a hint at who will be keeping us glued to our screens for the next few weeks.

A Scots music teacher is among those aiming to impress when GBBO returns in just under two weeks. And he's not the only Scot who will be whipping up a storm as a Cumbrian nuclear scientist will also be flying the flag for Scotland as he grew up in the east end of Glasgow.

Here's who is set to appear on this year's Great British Bake Off:

Kevin, 33, from Lanarkshire

He first rolled up his sleeves and started baking when he was just 17. His ethos in the kitchen is to use the best, seasonal ingredients and to spend time refining his technique - with these in hand, he believes the presentation will take care of itself.

Abdul, 29, from London

The electronics engineer's interest in baking began when he and his graduate colleagues baked for each other to brighten up their daily coffee breaks. He applies his precision thinking to the chemistry of creating bakes. Matcha is among his favourite flavours.

James is a Nuclear Scientist who grew up in the east-end of Glasgow. He enjoys the technical side of baking, but is in his element when he makes his bakes his own, with his signature ‘child-friendly horror’ style and adorable decoration. His favourite flavours are anything autumnal, such as mixed spice, apples and caramel.

The Class of 2022 (Channel 4)

Janusz, 34, from East Sussex

Janusz grew up in Poland and works in education. He was inspired to bake by his mother, who always baked on a Saturday; a tradition Janusz continued when he moved away from home to go to university. His favourite flavours are ginger and chocolate.
