The graphs that show how coronavirus deaths spiked, and are now falling, in every borough in Greater Manchester

The number of coronavirus deaths is falling dramatically in every borough in Greater Manchester, the latest figures show

A total of 57 Covid-19-related deaths occured in the region in the week ending June 12.

That was down from 87 the week before, and 121 the week before that, according to figures released by the Office for National Statistics.

Covid-19-related deaths in the area have fallen from a peak of 540 in the week ending April 17.

But despite the improving picture political leaders are urging the public to continue to heed social distancing rules to prevent a second spike.

Speaking last week after the Government reduced the national Covid alert level from four to three, Greater Manchester Mayor Andy Burnham said: "I were the government I would be re-emphasising now the need for vigilance, for safety."

The numbers for the week ending June 12 include 41 deaths in hospitals, a fall from 51 a week before, and 13 deaths in care homes, down from 33.

Overall, there have been 2,847 deaths across Greater Manchester involving Covid-19 between the start of the outbreak and June 12.

Of those deaths, most (1,867) took place in hospital, with 824 in care homes.

There were also 109 deaths recorded at home, 33 in hospices, four in other communal establishments, and 10 elsewhere.

As the charts below show in most borough's the pandemic peaked in the week ending April 17, except for Salford which saw its highest death toll a week earlier, and Stockport and Trafford which peaked a week later.

Separate figures from the Care Quality Commission (CQC), show eight deaths involving coronavirus in care homes in Greater Manchester in the week ending June 19.

That was down from 17 the week before.

Figures published by Public Health England show, in the week ending June 14, there were four new suspected or confirmed outbreaks in care homes in the area.

There have been 267 suspected or confirmed Covid-19 outbreaks reported in care homes in Greater Manchester between March 9 and June 14.

That means 47% of the 566 care homes in the area have had cases.

Up to June 12, there had been 53,009 deaths registered across the UK with Covid-19 on the death certificate.
