Grand Tour's Richard Hammond faces major car insurance issues after near-fatal crashes

The Grand Tour presenter Richard Hammond has some major issues getting insurance due to his past of near-fatal car crashes.

The former Top Gear host, 50, previously was left in some dangerous situations back in both 2006 and 2017.

Now Richard tells The Sun: "I have fun when I want to insure something else because there will always be the question, ‘Have you had any accidents in the last two years Mr Hammond?’ Oh, um, maybe. Yeah."

He adds: "My CV does not read well."

The presenter was caught up in a 288mph crash while driving a jet-powered car back in 2006, which saw the tyres fail and the car flip over several times.

Richard suffered a "significant brain injury" that prompted the ninth series of Top Gear to be delayed.

In 2017, Richard was also caught up in a further crash of a Rimac Concept One supercar in the Swiss Alps for Amazon series The Grand Tour.

The presenter thankfully escaped unscathed but now he has some issues getting insurance - go figure!

He also admitted to the newspaper that he does not own any modern fast cars and instead resigned to his "leaky" Land Rover and 1920s cars.

Richard jokes that he does "tear across the country lanes" near his home but is "leaking oil and breaking down" due to his old sets of wheels.

He isn't the only Top Gear star to have been harmed by dangerous accidents on the series.

Freddie Flintoff has also been caught up in trike crash, shouting "I'm running out of runway" seconds before the former England cricketer crashed off the track.

Jeremy Clarkson was also injured on Top Gear in the past (SWNS)

Meanwhile, Richard's close friend and former Top Gear presenter Jeremy Clarkson was caught up in a crash of his Alfa Romeo 75 which flipped over.

Jeremy was left with a slipped disc, broken thumb and a nasty-looking graze.

We'll just stick to watching the show, thanks!
