The Govan Ferry is back for the summer offering free transport across the Clyde

The Govan Ferry has returned for the summer for another year.

The project offers a free summer ferry service between Govan and the Riverside Museum to provide an opportunity for families to enjoy activities on both sides of the river.

The service will run until October 20 this year before closing up over the winter.

Run by Govan Workspace , the free ferry a community-run social enterprise who took up ferrying after the original service was relaunched in 2011 then axed just two years later.

The ferry marks an ancient crossing point first recorded in the 16th century, and nowadays offers a gateway to the museum of transport on the north bank and Govan Old Parish Church and the Govan Stones on the south.

The service has found itself under threat a number of times , with campaigns launched to keep the ferry afloat in 2016 and 2017.

So if you're looking for a wee summer day out over the holidays, be sure to hop across the water using the Govan Ferry!

You can take a look at journey times on their website .
