The gorgeous walk along an abandoned railway line that's right here in Merseyside

With summer season now fully underway, it's the perfect time to grab your bike or put on your walking shoes - and there's a lovely walk you might not know about right around the corner.

The Loop Line, also known as the Ralla, is a 10-mile path for walkers and cyclists along a disused railway line in Merseyside.

Traffic free for visitors and commuters,  the popular route once belonged to British Rail but was abandoned in 1986, later being converted into a cycle path.

You can start the picturesque route right from Halewood.

Along the pathways, residents and visitors can experience a lovely scenic stroll and see the old abandoned railway tunnels and nature at its best.

You will also be able to see a duck pond off the Trans Pennine Trail and a carved owl from a tree.

Halewood routes can be started at Halewood Train station, Halewood Environment Centre or even the loop around the Halewood Triangle end of the line.

Merseyside has many fantastic walking and cycling routes right on your doorstep and this is definitely one to visit.
