The gorgeous moment woman proposes to partner at Ed Sheeran Cardiff concert

Ed Sheeran is known and loved for love songs like Photograph and Lego House — but it really couldn't have got any more romantic than when one fan proposed to her soulmate as the singer performed on stage at Cardiff's Principality Stadium.

Kimberley Wright, 29, proposed to Kyran Ruddock-Owens, 26, during Ed's concert on Friday as she executed the plan she'd been planning for nearly a year while Ed sang one of his most romantic songs, Perfect, at the sell-out show. She said: “It just felt as if it was right — all of our closest friends, all of our bestest friends were there.”

The video above shows the couple seemingly lost in the music as they hold each other and sway to the music along with thousands of others. Then Kim moves away and a friend hands her the ring before Kim drops to her knee. Kyran looks stunned before taking her in his arms as onlookers cheer. Four of the couple's closest friends were in on the plan. You can read our review of the show here.

Explaining why she choose the Ed Sheeran concert for the proposal, Kimberley said: “I thought it was perfect because Ed Sheeran is just a phenomenal person anyway. Myself and my fiancé are such gig-goers that it just was brilliant and with the people that we love around us it was just the right moment.”

Both Kim, a dental receptionist, and Kyran, who works in product development, loved Ed Sheeran from his first album before they had met each other, making the concert the perfect place to propose. However, not everything went to plan as Kimberly had originally planned to propose during the song Thinking Out Loud but four songs before that particular hit, Kyran and their friends all went for a toilet break and one friend got lost trying to find the group again and Kim thought she had missed her moment. She said: "I was getting quite upset because the song was still playing and I thought I’ve missed this opportunity now.”

Determined to still propose, Kimberly and her friends made a new plan for her to propose during Ed's song Perfect, which really did make for a perfect moment. She said: “It was literally a perfect moment, it was magical. Everyone just stopped and stared at us for that brief moment and it was just great.”

She described how she felt before and after proposing: “I was trembling, I had butterflies, I felt sick, I was so tense. I think it got to a point where I didn’t even hear the music around me. The next minute, I’m turning around, I’m nodding to everybody, and then we all had our little signs up and I was down on one knee before I knew it. We were on such a high anyway, it was just such a lovely, lovely, atmosphere.”

Kimberly also described how the rest of the concert reacted when she proposed: “The only way I can describe it is like if you threw a stone into the river where it was just a ripple effect where all of a sudden there was a big circle of people — everybody just looked at us and all cheered and shouted.”

Kyran was delighted and very shocked. Kimberly said: “Everybody else around him knew but he had absolutely no clue. He was just so shocked, I don’t think he knew how to react. Like a kid at Christmas, he was just so over the moon and couldn’t quite believe it happened either, it was just amazing.”

Both Kyran and Kimberley are still enjoying the delight of their engagement, Kimberley said: "We are still looking back at the video and we still think 'Oh my goodness this actually happened'.”

The couple from Porthmadog met at a party and have been together nearly three years. They bonded over their love of music, Kimberley said: “Music brought us together and music is keeping us together as well.”
