Google has been rumored to be planning new satellite features for its Find Hub, and we finally got an idea of what this could mean during the recent Made by Google event.
In a recent statement, via Android Authority, Skylo Technologies revealed just what new features would be coming for the Pixel 10 series as part of an expansion of the satellite connectivity. One of these additions is allowing users with the new phones to share their location through a satellite connection on both the Find Hub and Google Maps.
This means that the Google Pixel 10 series will be the first Android 16 devices to allow users to share their location without requiring a cellular connection. When one of your contacts receives the location pin, it will feature a satellite icon indicating an off-grid status.
It isn't just the phones seeing new features, as it is also stated that the Google Pixel Watch 4 will be the first smartwatch to offer two-way satellite emergency messaging. This means that users will be able to contact emergency services from their watch without needing a cellular plan or even a phone.
It’s not just Skylo that can use the feature, as T-Mobile has stated that Google Maps, Find Hub and Messages are available to connect through its T-satellite service on the Pixel 10. There are plans to expand to more devices as soon as T-satellite becomes data-ready on October 1.
What else was announced at Made by Google
The biggest announcement made during the event was the unveiling of the long-anticipated Google Pixel 10, Pixel 10 Pro, Pixel 10 Pro XL and the Google Pixel 10 Pro Fold. All three phones look to be pretty substantial upgrades, with improved AI features courtesy of Google Gemini, including Magic Cue, which appears to be an evolution of the autofill tool we’ve all been using for passwords and contact details for years.
We also saw Google post a video of the ProRes Zoom feature coming for the Google Pixel 10 Pro and the Google Pixel 10 Pro XL. This new addition allows you to zoom in by up to 100X with increased quality, avoiding the trap of many cameras that cause the image to appear grainy and off-putting.
