The Good Samaritans who stopped to help injured lorry driver at M4 crash

This is the scene of the shocking lorry crash on the M4 near Bristol on Saturday - and shows just how many people stopped to help the stricken driver.

At least ten Good Samaritans pulled over and went to the aid of the driver, who was seriously injured in the crash, which happened at lunchtime on Saturday, September 12.

This footage from the dashcam of a passing driver shows the scene just a couple of minutes after the lorry blew a tyre and swerved out of control on the eastbound side of the M4, between junction 19 for Bristol and the M32, and junction 18 for Bath.

The emergency services have not arrived at the scene, but the video shows ten other cars have been stopped on the hard shoulder, with drivers and passengers rushing to the aid of the driver, after his lorry rolled onto its side and careered down an embankment.

Several people are gathered around the driver, while others look on concerned. The emergency services arrived seconds after this driver, and closed down the motorway for a time while they dealt with the scene.

The lorry driver was taken to hospital with a suspected injury.

The crash caused severe delays on the M4 between Bristol and Bath for most of Saturday - it wasn't until just before 8pm that all the lanes of the eastbound carriageway were reopened after the lorry and its trailer were recovered.

It has been a bad weekend on the roads around Bristol and the West Country - the M5 has been closed for the whole of Sunday following a serious crash in Gloucestershire, and a motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene of a head-on crash near the border of Wiltshire, Dorset and Somerset on Saturday.
