The good news is: vaccine rollout boost, Fungie hope and brilliant Easter Egg bargains

These days it can be hard to escape the doom and gloom of everyday life with the pandemic consuming much of our day.

But with Irish Mirror's good news round-up we will keep you optimistic about the future.

"The good news is" will appear on the site every Monday, Wednesday and Friday so you can give yourself a break from downbeat stuff.

And of course we would love for you to share your good news stories with us - either comment on the article, message us on Facebook or email news@irishmirror.ie.

Here's what's keeping us positive this week!

Vaccine hope

The Johnson and Johnson vaccine was authorised for use in the United States earlier this week and it should be given the all-clear for use in Europe in the next few days.

This will be a massive boost to the vaccine rollout here - as Ireland has an initial agreement of 2.2million doses of the jab.

What sets the Johnson and Johnson vaccine apart is that it's a one-shot jab and can be stored in regular fridges.

Already, we've given a dose to nearly 10% of the country. That number will start to rise quickly if J&J get the thumbs up from the European Medicines Agency this week!

Cheap Easter Egg bargains

Easter egg hunt (Tayto Park)

This year of all years, we wouldn't blame you for going a bit mad on the Easter Eggs.

And especially with some of the deals in the supermarkets ahead of the celebration next month.

The best we've seen so far is four medium eggs for €4 - but you have to be quick!

The flash Super Valu sale is set to come to an end on Thursday, March 4 or whenever stocks run out,

Have we found Fungie?

There was widespread devastation when everyone's favourite flippered friend went missing off the coast of Dingle for the first time in decades before Christmas.

But there is now hope that Fungie has resurfaced.

A video has emerged of a friendly dolphin performing in front of a small audience at Galway Bay - leading many to question if it could be Fungie.

In the video captured by Steve Sweeney, a small boat drifts on the water when suddenly a lone dolphin flips about 12 feet into the air.

Although it is unlikely that the dolphin is the much loved Fungie, it hasn't stopped speculation on social media that the famous Dingle native has 'resurrected' from the dead.
