The Good News Is: Major vaccine milestone, hope for reopening and takeaway pints

These days it can be hard to escape the doom and gloom of everyday life with the pandemic consuming much of our day.

But with Irish Mirror's good news round-up we will keep you optimistic about the future.

"The good news is" will appear on the site every Monday, Wednesday and Friday so you can give yourself a break from downbeat stuff.

We've hit a major vaccine milestone.

One in every five adults have now received a Covid-19 vaccination in Ireland.

Minister for Health Stephen Donnelly confirmed the news this afternoon on Twitter.

As of Wednesday, April 14, 1,121,103 vaccine doses have been administered.

This is despite delays to deliveries and supply worries.

With Ireland still 'on track' to have four in every five adults jabbed by the end of June, normality seems to be on its way back.

Hope for reopening

As Ireland's overall Covid incidence rate continues to drop, the main leaders of the country have been speaking this week about what the country could look like later in the year.

The leader of the country has said that Ireland is still aiming for a normal summer.

Micheál Martin told Virgin Media: "We can look forward with some degree of confidence. We have to be very careful of course, we have to be vigilant and keep the numbers down, but so far so good."

This was backed up by Leo Varadkar, with the Tánaiste ''hopeful'' of indoor and outdoor dining by the summer.

“We would expect to be in a position at the end of April to give an indication as to how hospitality might reopen across the course of June or July."

Takeaway pints are allowed

Takeaway pints are most definitely back on the menu with gardai confirming the latest rules after the first easing of lockdown restrictions.

Many people will be travelling around the county and meeting outdoors with a friend, perhaps wondering if they should grab a takeaway pint or two.

The Government finally lifted the dreaded 5km travel limit at the start of the week and have hinted that more restrictions could be changed if Covid cases continue to stay low.

And the good news for publicans all across the country is that takeaway pints are not against the law and Irish pubs can continue to serve them this weekend!
