The good news is: Ireland gets busy building snowmen as adorable Tyrone wedding hits the right notes

Some love it, others hate it – but one thing's certain when it comes to snow: it sure gets the Irish talking.

This week parts of the country have been battered with a barrage of the white stuff – and it looks like there's more to come.

In a pandemic, when we're not supposed to be travelling anyway, snow is less an inconvenience and more a very, very welcome distraction from lockdown's grim realities.

And it was hard not to smile as photos emerged of families building snowmen and snow-women in gardens around the country.

Social media was abuzz with smiling – if freezing – faces, capturing the precious moments that will survive long after Level Five becomes a grim memory from the past.

If you – like us – after some good news to brighten up your weekend, then look no further.

The musical wedding that stole everyone's heart

If you, like us, feared you might forget the sheer, unadulterated joy of a couple taking to the altar for their wedding, then this recently surfaced video is the thing for you.

Heartwarming footage emerged this week of Dominic and Zoe Douglas, who sang their way into married life in December at a safe – and socially distanced – ceremony.

Dominic surprised his bride-to-be with an virtuosic solo performance as she walked up the aisle, before the newlyweds took to the stage with a gorgeous duet.

It doesn't get much cuter than that.

Finally – finally – we know when we'll get down to 100 cases a day

Not too long ago, with figures in the high thousands every day, 100 Covid-19 cases a day seemed an impossible dream.

But now, after weeks of effort from families and businesses countrywide, we can see the light at the end of the tunnel.

Professor Philip Nolan said today that we'll be down at 100 cases a day by the end of March – which might seem a long way away, but will arrive (hopefully) just as the vaccine rollout really starts to gather speed.

The end really is in sight.

The man living the life in sunny Lanzarote

It's hard not to feel a twinge of jealousy when reading about the exploits of Mossie O'Mahony – the 60-year-old Galway man who's been living (safely) in Lanzarote since last autumn.

But on the bright side, his adventures offer us a window into the lifestyle we will – some day – be able to re-adopt after Covid-19.

It's perhaps not surprising that, according to Mossie, "the lifestyle here is an awful lot better than at home."

Once it's safe, we'll be joining you, Mossie.

Could a Cork stadium host the Europa League final?

Excitement is growing in the Rebel County after top-ranking officials backed the idea of a Cork Europa League final.

Cork Beo is this week reporting that the Lord Mayor of the county is on board with the idea of hosting the showpiece event in no less a venue than Parc Ui Chaoimh.

"We have a state-of-the-art stadium, and it could take the crows," said Cork Lord Mayor Joe Kavanagh.

"It would have to be converted into an all-seater due to rules on soccer matches, but that's manageable."

Not a bad prospect.
