These days it can be hard to escape the doom and gloom of everyday life with the pandemic consuming much of our day.

But with Irish Mirror's good news round-up we will keep you optimistic about the future.

"The good news is" will appear on the site every Monday, Wednesday and Friday so you can give yourself a break from downbeat stuff.

And of course we would love for you to share your good news stories with us - either comment on the article, message us on Facebook or email news@irishmirror.ie.

Here's what's keeping us positive this week!

Hospital numbers continue to fall

The number of people suffering with Covid-19 in Irish hospitals continues to slowly fall.

HSE CEO Paul Reid said there were many 'reasons to be hopeful' as infection rates among elderly people also dropped thanks to the Covid-19 vaccines being rolled out.

''Hospital (475) & ICU (112) numbers down again. Vaccines showing very positive early signs of effectiveness. Infections amongst the most vulnerable & healthcare workers hugely decreasing. More to go, so let's see this through now.'' Reid tweeted this afternoon.

Dream job alert

Think of what every child wants to be when they grow up.

We're not talking firefighters or astronauts - we're talking being paid to eat delicious chocolate.

One Irish person will get to live that dream thanks to Aldi.

But you'll need to get a hop on if you want to land this dream job - by emailing your entry between March 8 and 12.

Dolly gets a dose of her own medicine

Country star Dolly Parton got a taste of her own medicine - literally - as she received her Covid-19 vaccination yesterday.

The music legend had donated a large amount money to Vanderbilt University Medical Center - a partner of the US company Moderna that has developed a COVID-19 vaccine.

The 75-year-old was seen receiving the Moderna jab in a new video.
