The first-ever Golden Bachelor Australia has come to a dramatic end with finalist Janette Bendle admitting she was “blindsided” by Barry ‘Bear’ Myrden‘s decision.

ICYMI, The Golden Bachelor Australia has officially come to a close with Bear finding love with 58-year-old Sunny Long.
But before he could profess his complete adoration and admiration for the sassy CEO, he unfortunately had to spill the heartbreaking news to 61-year-old Janette Bendle, who’d been a frontrunner from day dot.
And honestly, with the way she handled the news, you could tell she was heartbroken by Bear’s decision.
“I read your eyes the minute I walked up here,” she told Bear before he said that he “really respects” her.
“Don’t disrespect Sunny by saying anything like that. I hope you’re very happy, both of you.”
With the finale done and dusted, Janette has since opened up about that heartbreaking ending, admitting she was “blindsided” that Bear didn’t pick her.
“I was sure it was me, and then when it wasn’t I thought, ‘How did I ever think that?'” she told 9Entertainment.
“I felt like a bit of a fool and this has shown me to be very protective of my heart.”
Reflecting on the devastating finale, she said that she knew she wasn’t going to be picked when she saw him on top of the Cape Town mountain due to his eyes, even though she was convinced Bear would choose her before their meeting.
“When I got up there and I looked into his eyes, I saw a bit of sadness,” Janette said.
“I hadn’t kind of mindfully prepared anything for him not choosing me. I felt on that day he was going to choose me.
“I just wanted to run from that because I held back my tears, I put my wall up, and I thought, just be strong. And I just wanted to get off that mountain, rip my clothes off, rip my shoes off and and just rid myself of that day. You know? I wanted to go hide somewhere and have my little cry.”
Janette has revealed that she hasn’t contacted Bear since their meeting in South Africa. However, she did send Sunny a lovely text following the shebang.

Shortly after the ceremony, Janette revealed that she sent a message to her fellow contestant, wishing her well on her journey with Bear.
“I messaged Sunny because I was genuinely happy for her. I realised in the end she was in love with him, and I wished her well, and I wished them a happy life together and whatever comes from it,” she dished.
While she didn’t find love on The Golden Bachelor, we truly wish Janette the WORLD! It’s what she truly deserves.
