It’s time to whip out those hay fever tablets for dozens of roses because The Golden Bachelor is officially on the horizon, with a bunch of deets — including the cast, trailer and titular heartbreaker — arriving ahead of the imminent premiere.
In 2024, it appeared that the Bachie universe Down Under had officially imploded, with Network 10 announcing that The Bachelors would not be returning for another sad rose ceremony. However, shortly after the devastating reality TV tea was spilled, it was announced that The Golden Bachelor would be gracing our nation in 2025 on Channel Nine.
So to get you up to speed, here’s everything we know about Australia’s first-ever The Golden Bachelor.

When does The Golden Bachelor Australia start?
Clutch your roses, The Golden Bachelor Australia will officially debut on Monday, October 20, at 7.30pm on Channel Nine and 9Now!
Who is in the cast of The Bachelor Australia?
20 lovely ladies are vying for the heart of the great hunk of sailor spunk, Bear. This includes Bianca, a Queensland-based radio presenter, NSW-based preprty manager Elizete and *drum rolls ploise* Abbie Chatfield‘s mother, Laura!

The cast is an apparently rowdy bunch, with reports emerging before the premiere that the mansion was subject to noise complaints as contestants were cut off from drinking wine in the early morning hours. Yep, we’re in for a ride!
You can peep the full cast list here.
Who is The Golden Bachelor for 2025?
The person doling out roses like hotcakes as Australia’s first Golden Bachelor is Barry ‘Bear’ Myrden. Channel Nine confirmed the casting choice back in March, with an Instagram Post that read, “Australia, meet your first ever Golden Bachelor, Bear!”, complete with a rose emoji of course!

Daily Mail Australia also managed to obtain paparazzi pics of the incoming bachie back in March and in looks like we are in for one hell of a season!!
Who is Barry ‘Bear’ Myrden, Australia’s first Golden Bachelor?
According to the Sydneysider’s LinkedIn Profile, the incoming Bachie is an Infrastructure Engineer for the Woolworths Group. He is also an Advisor / Investor for BlockScribe.
The father of three is also a “passionate sailor”.

Per Chattr, Barry was previously married to Audrey Myrden. However, in 2011 Audrey passed away following an aggressive malignant brain tumour diagnosis in 2009.
Barry discussed the tragedy in an appearance on A Current Affair back in 2012. As part of the episode, the show made good on Audrey’s wish to move the family from their rental into a more stable home, with the family relocated to a renovated home in Sydney where Audrey, Barry and the kids could spend her final days.
A source who claims to be close to The Golden Bachelor said they’re not surprised with Barry’s appearance on the show, saying that his three kids – Charlie, Jack and Declan – disliked the women he dated.
“Bear is always complaining that his boys are saying that he is bringing around the wrong kind of girls that are just too young and hot for him,” the source told Daily Mail Australia.
“We were always saying that he needs to be put on a show like MAFS, so seeing him up for the Bachelor role is no surprise.”
Is there a trailer for The Golden Bachelor?
YES! We finally have a trailer for the first-ever Golden Bachelor Australia!!!
Here’s a quick geeze before we jump into the deets:
In the trailer, we’re introduced to our incoming Bachie, Bear, who opens up about his late wife and how he’s ready to find love once more. We then get to meet the 20 ladies who will be vying for his heart on the first-ever Golden Bachelor, and let’s just say the divas are UPPPPP!!!!
“He makes me feel flustered. I hope it’s not the menopause,” one contestant icon said before another icon ‘trips’ onto Bear, telling him, “I’m already falling for you”.
Another baddie comes out in an iconic Carnival style outfit, speaking about how she’s gonna teach him how to shake his booty, and another doing a tiger growl at the camera. It is intense, and I am obsessed.
We also get to catch a glimpse at some dates and snogs!!!
What is The Golden Bachelor about?
If you’re not across the concept, let me put you on. The Golden Bachelor is a spin-off of the Bachelor franchise but instead of featuring a slew of young people, it follows a bunch of singles in their golden years — silver foxes and silver baddies, if you will — as they date a heap of suitors to find love in their elder age.
It was first trialled in the United States with 72-year-old GILF Gerry Turner, a retired widower. The series was incredibly successful in numbers and in results. It ended with Gerry getting hitched to 71-year-old contestant Theresa Nist in a live television special broadcasting their wedding.
Sadly for the cute couple, it wasn’t meant to be, and they got divorced three months later, but it was a television spectacle nonetheless!!!!

The news that a Golden Bachelor series is coming to Australia is incredibly exciting. As an entertainment reporter who has covered reality dating shows for years, I’ve noted a consistent theme on social media from the public — people want more realistic love stories. One way to do that? Find older contestants who are truly ready to settle down rather than those who are attempting to gain their 15 minutes of fame.
In Australia, it seems like networks have been pretty resistant to having older people on a dating show. Well, with the exception of another Channel Nine series called My Mum, Your Dad, which saw kids navigate the love lives of their parents.
Who is hosting The Golden Bachelor Australia?
Unfortunately, The Bachelor darling Osher Günsberg will not be hosting this one. Instead, Channel Nine have brought on Farmer Wants A Wife host Samantha Armytage for this love fest!

While Nine is known for its chaotic AF shows *cough* MAFS *cough*, something tells me this ~golden~ piece of reality TV dating is going to be smooth sailing (OOP TWO PUNS, sue me).
The Golden Bachelor debuts on Channel Nine and 9Now on Monday, October 20.
