Nothing screams glamour quite like a glittering chandelier.
From bespoke, handcrafted designs inspired by nature to crystal pendants illuminated by modern LED tech, this is where to start your shopping:
BESPOKE AND BEAUTIFUL
"Chandeliers are decorative art, adding glamour to any space," says designer Fiona Gall of Bow brand Emerald Faerie. Bespoke chandeliers, from £2,500, are made from crystal beads, metal chains, old magnifying glasses, vintage diamanté pieces and other found objects.
Handcrafted designs at emeraldfaeirie.com include Birds of Paradise No 2, with bronze wings and crystal strands, priced £1,965. With oversize crystals, brass chains and vintage fruit spoons, Elixir of Life, £180, fits to an existing bayonet light fitting.
STARCHITECTS LOVE THEM
Munich-based lighting designers Roel Haagmans and Clarissa Dorn set up Windfall and work with top architects including David Chipperfield and developers Yoo and Candy & Candy. Cascading, multicoloured, crystal steel wires, with ceiling downlighters, make Flowers, from £4,650, a magical design for a staircase.
Also lit from above is Eden's seemingly free-floating metal branch supporting 25 flowers, £6,000. Commission site-specific chandeliers via Cameron Peters Fine Lighting.
NATURE PLAYS ITS PART
Made-to-order designs by Portuguese brand Serip are also nature-inspired. Entangled bronze branches and handblown, "floating" glass pieces give Aqua its elegance, while Waterfall playfully combines a minimal bronze structure with visually dense crystals.
Glamour's icy drops can spread horizontally or vertically, and Bouquet’s amalgam of colourful flowers, leaves and branches conjures an indoor garden.
Prices on request at serip.com.pt. UK orders via Home by Helena.
FOR YOUR CRYSTAL PALACE
London’s Tord Boontje collaborated with Swarovski’s Crystal Palace chandelier project on the Luminous Reflections collection, including Radiant Light, from £899, with three further designs — Luminous Bough, Lustrous Aura and Shimmering Jewel — launching this autumn.
Boontje uses big, unfaceted crystals, creating softer lighting despite the integration of pin-sharp LEDs.
THEATRICAL PERFORMANCE
Czech glass specialist Lasvit's Neverending Glory crystal pendants, inspired by theatre chandeliers, start at £1,188.
The Galaxy Luminia collection, £3,750 to £14,300, designed by Borek Sipek, features hand-blown glass parts. Launched this year, Pearl Drop, price on request, is from another Czech specialist, Preciosa.
