The Glen Eden Hotel: Disused Co Fermanagh hotel up for auction

A disused Co Fermanagh hotel is set to go up for auction this week as a new buyer is sought for the development.

The Glen Eden Hotel on Belleek Main Street, formerly the Carlton Hotel, is set to go under the hammer with an asking price of £535,000.

The 35-bedroom hotel closed its doors in 2013, but had reopened briefly on a number of occasions in recent years. It went into administration in 2012.

It had previously been put up for sale at auction in 2020 but a buyer was not found at that time.

Now the hotel will go under the hammer on Friday by Northern Ireland Property Auctions. On a description for the hotel’s listing, the auctioneers say the property would provide the buyer with a ‘ready to go business’.

“Rare opportunity to purchase an existing Hotel premises, ideally located on the banks of the River Erne opposite Belleek Pottery Visitor Centre,” the listing says.

“Belleek is a thriving border market town and is internationally renowned for Belleek Pottery. The property provides a purchaser with a "ready to go" business providing a modern and well-fitted out hotel.

“The hotel has traded successfully in the past and provides an ideal setting for weddings and additional seasonal trade due to its close proximity to Donegal.”

The bidding is to take place on Friday at 3pm via online auction.

Erne North councillor John Coyle says he hopes a buyer for the property will be found as the town of Belleek is crying out for a hotel to accommodate tourists.

“The village is crying out for accommodation for people to stay,” Cllr Coyle told MyFermanagh.

“There is lots of tourist activity happening here and we would love to see the hotel back up and running again to satisfy that demand.

“It has left a hole in Belleek that needs to be filled, hopefully a buyer can be found and bring more jobs and activity to the village.”
